There is an international outbreak of measles that is a result of low vaccination rates in many communities.
Children require 2 doses of their MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) vaccine (once at 12 months and again at 4-6 years of age). If your child has not had 2 doses, please contact your family physician to book an immunization.
Infants less than 12 months of age can receive a dose of MMR vaccine if they will be travelling outside of Canada. This immunization can be booked through your family physician.
Adults born on or after 1970 should have received 2 doses of their MMR vaccine. If you have only received one dose, please contact your family physician to book your second dose.
Adults born before 1970 have natural immunity. However, if you are travelling internationally, a single dose of MMR vaccine is recommended and can be booked through your family physician.
More information about measles is available from Ottawa Public Health.
